Three Years Sober, One Thousand Subscribers, and Introducing Personalised Coaching
Marking Three Milestones
Three years ago, a man lay in a hospital bed, an inmate on bed-watch from prison, soon to take his last gulps of alcohol.
It’s now hard to believe that man was me.
Now, I stand here, healthy, grounded, and sharing this journey with over a thousand of you.
Today, I’m marking three milestones, each a testament to the choices that built this reality.
i) A Personal Milestone: Approaching Three Years of Sobriety.
Back at that moment, I was secured in a hospital side room, under round-the-clock watch by two prison officers, with an IV drip in my arm treating a rare and potentially lethal infection.
Long story short, I was an inmate and an inpatient, paying a price for my own choices.
I drank obscene amounts of alcohol, daily, and every now and then, I went pretty fucking wild. Not the “Ha-ha, you crazy bastard” kind of wild. I mean the kind of wild that fills a street with police cars. And yet, I was still oblivious to the fact that my choices were the driving force behind every punishing event in my life.
In early April 2022, I was temporarily released from the hospital for a video court appearance at the prison, and then released from custody. Homeless, and having burned every bridge and olive branch available, I decided not to waste the free bed and food back at the hospital.
But before I got back to the ward, technically ‘free,’ and recklessly unaware, I did the only thing I knew: I got blackout drunk. I couldn’t afford it, but trust me, there is always a way. Maybe to celebrate my so-called freedom. Maybe because I didn’t know how else to exist.
When I woke up in that hospital bed, the doctors came to give me a simple yet life-altering choice: stay on the ward, continue treatment, and try to live, or mess around, get discharged, and let this cycle repeat… assuming I even survived.
I used the last strand of sanity I had left and agreed to stay the course. That was the last time alcohol passed my lips.
When my treatment was complete, I was handed door-to-door to a third institution: rehab. Not by preference but by legal requirement. I was considered a risk to myself and society, and refusing to attend meant more prison time.
That rehab followed Choice Theory, an approach that teaches people to understand their choices and meet their fundamental needs in healthier ways. I didn’t buy into all of it, but the parts that resonated changed my life. I took what I needed, discarded what I didn’t, and explored the ideas that deserved deeper attention. Over time, I have pieced together my own understanding of choice and self-determination by weaving in elements of other philosophies.
That new beginning was almost three years ago.
If you knew me then and saw me now, you wouldn't believe I was the same person. And you’d be right—I am not.
I don’t think the same, I don’t act the same, and I don’t even look the same.
Everything changed because I chose differently.
Everything is different because I understand choice.
ii) A Rehabitus Milestone: One Thousand Subscribers
And it’s a true milestone. Originally, a milestone was a stone pillar placed every 1,000 paces along a road, not just to measure distance but to signify progress.
This is not necessarily about counting. It’s more about movement, growth, and change. We’re a tribe of unique individuals changing our situations by changing ourselves. And now, with over 1,000 of us walking this path, we mark another step forward.
I have your back here, and you have mine.
And for that, I owe you my deepest gratitude.
Because the man lying in that hospital bed three years ago could never have seen this coming. That man, if left unchanged, could still be on a wild spree of destruction, in prison, or even dead.
But instead, here we are.
Different choices really do lead to remarkably different outcomes.
iii) A New Offering: The Founder’s Tier
Something is evolving here. It feels like the beginning of the next mile.
Since its inception last year, Rehabitus has remained open to all.
Subscribers don’t have to pay, but some do. And they’re not paying to unlock content: they’re paying because they see value in what is already available and believe in what is still to come.
That model isn’t changing.
Rehabitus stays open. Every article, every core idea, every shift in perspective I share will remain free to view.
However, understanding a perspective is not the same as applying it.
There’s something I cannot distill into a published piece. Something no article, no matter how detailed, can fully capture:
Real conversations. Real guidance. Real accountability.
Personalised Support and Deeper Work
This is where The Founder’s Tier comes in.
Here, we move beyond ideas and into action.
Here, we apply insights—directly, personally, and in real time.
If you want one-to-one support, practical tools, and a way to refine your choices so that sobriety flows as a natural byproduct rather than a daily battle, this might be for you.
What You Get:
1:1 sobriety support tailored to you and your needs
In-depth discussions & accountability partnering
Direct email conversations & periodic video chats
You will have unfiltered access to my:
Understanding of addiction and well-being
Lived experiences of becoming sober
Choices, habits, and mindsets that make it last
This is not a program. There’s no script. No one-size-fits-all guide.
It’s built around listening to you—how you think, where you are stuck, and how to leverage choice to create lasting change.
And just to be clear: this is not therapy. If you feel you need therapy, go to therapy.
Think of this as coaching, personal training, or strategic partnering, but for your sobriety.
I’m more like the guy in the gym who helps you lift weights with good form so you grow stronger on your own.
And eventually, you won’t need me anymore. That’s the goal.
Because, ideally, I will do myself out of a job.
Down the line, you won’t be looking for ways to try to stay sober—you’ll be self-sufficient, actively meeting your own needs, and taking charge of your own life.
This tier doesn’t change the open model. Free subscribers still get every article, and paid subscribers help keep it that way while receiving occasional feedback.
But for those who want real dialogue, deeper clarity, and personalised ways to move forward, this tier gives you that opportunity.
And one more thing.
For an introductory period, you set the price.
I want this to be available to people who need it, not just those who can afford the full cost.
That’s why, for now, The Founder’s Tier has an adjustable payment field.
Contribute at the level that feels right for you, and you’ll still receive the same benefits.
If this resonates, you know where to find me.
