I chose to read this twice so I could change my operating system just a little bit!
I’ve always instinctively known that thinking about certain things is like opening a door, and more of the same thoughts will leak through later. The choice to focus on how terrible everything is, is so mainstream and unproductive, and spreads from person to person.
And today, I choose to see it as a challenge that has been given to us to overcome and grow stronger from.
Amazing it's always a choice i believe that 💯 we all chose to use and at some point chose to get clean because we realised that there was more to us than addiction and that we was worth more than what we was setting for and also chose to be accountable for the choices we made in the past were good people who made bad choices and those past choices don't define us it's the choices we make now as now we are aware we can choose but we're not free from the consequences of our choices good or bad
Earlier today I was thinking about the role interpreters play in our society and certainly in any situation where a "translation" is needed. They have to be among the most trusted people, especially in diplomatic situations.
Since the classic wisdom from many sources was written in languages no longer native to us, much has been lost through often contradictory interpretations.
But to your point, I think those involuntary choices we have been making are products of a faulty interpretation of what was going on. I often wonder how reliable universal translators are, especially the ones functioning without regulation inside our heads.
I never learned machine code, the actual language that makes computing work, because it just seemed too hard to learn. Maybe I need to take a crack at learning my personal machine code and how it makes me work.
Such a deep thought there, Larry. Yes what if our inner monologue is doing its best but doesn’t have the vocabulary or the software to accurately describe what is really happening. It’s doing its best, but some things might not translate well into the words we’ve got. Brilliant point
It builds on what you shared last week. The language we use is so important because we tend to believe it deeply. Reframing our thoughts can help us grow, but self-compassion matters too. Thanks Adam.
Your texts regularly empower me and make me feel liberated. Thank you for that!
At the same time, the focus on choice seems somehow at odds with the widespread approach of allowing and observing one's feelings, overcoming ego-based control and illuminating the shadow, etc.
Choose to allow and observe your feelings. But choose to let them pass without rumination. Choose exactly what you wish, for they are your choices, but choose wisely.
I think curiosity is a big part of those things you mentioned. Within those, if you wanted to dig deeper and investigate, you could ask yourself ‘why am I choosing to think this’ or ‘why did I choose that action over this one’.
I think a take away of this article is that by using the word ‘choice’ you know you have agency and can take responsibility.
Adam, I want you to know your writing on choices and starting sentences with “I choose” has almost immediately improved my attitude, my anxiety and my sense of peace! I want you to know this so you keep writing with authenticity and that you make a

Powerful words. I like the door analogy. Thoughts really do leak through later. Thank you Tim. Really helpful insights.
Another powerful one. Been thinking so much about language lately. Thanks Adam. 👏
I saw one of your posts about it and thought, ‘Boy have I got something in the works about that.’ Thank you, Holly
This is powerful! I can see how this would be very uncomfortable and take effort to implement but over time it becomes second nature.
This article has me already thinking about a couple areas where this could be implemented.
True, it hurts at first. But that’s what it takes.
Glad it resonated, Margaret. Thank you.
The choice of words used every day. To take time and care with all we say.
Positivity to others is the kindest way. There should always be kindness to make their day.
Beautiful, Debbie. Thank you.🙏
Thank you Adam.. 🕊️❤️🕊️

💯 Josie.
Thank you for reading.

Wow, this is a great perspective!

Thank you Tinashe. Very good point on self-compassion- it’s deeply important. Thanks for reading and sharing!
Awareness and wisdom. Thank you Adam! 🙏🏽
Thank you, Yoli.

What do you think about this?
Choose to allow and observe your feelings. But choose to let them pass without rumination. Choose exactly what you wish, for they are your choices, but choose wisely.
That again makes so much sense. Thanks

Absolutely, and such a good extension, Margaret.
Words words words...
Spells we cast on ourselves and others.
Pay attention what You speak to Yourself.
Good one
Much like your recent article.
