I did it to save my life not to impress or receive validation from anyone else. Although that encouragement from others is helpful some people approach recovery with only the thought of approval from others. It has to come from within.
Good stuff. My definition of recovery evolves. Currently it is the expression of my relationship to “Truth” and my commitment towards the responsibility of my actions on that “Truth”.
This really resonated with me. It makes a lot of sense that you have to leave that circus and find a new environment. Like you point out, part of that environment is your own body. Movement is an antidepressant more effective than anything the doctor could give you, so exercise can really change the playing field.
Things that resonated - addiction falls off like a shell once we evolve, own your shit, pain is an indicator not an enemy, numbness is the enemy/connection is our friend.
Thank you, Adam. I will be coming back to this to help me remember why I made the choice towards sobriety and that my choice matters greatly in helping me to create my reality moving forward.
Great essay, Adam, really enjoyed this read. This isn’t just a sobriety guide; it’s a guide to rebuilding your life. The truths you share resonate deeply with anyone navigating a reset, whether it's addiction, burnout, heartbreak, or simply feeling stuck. Honest, grounded, and deeply applicable to real-life growth.
“Not everyone is ready for real change. Not everyone wants to get better. And some don’t want you to get better either.
When someone shows you who they are, believe them.”
👏👏👏
Glad it resonated, Dee.
Wow… one piece with what feels like more than 100 profound quotes. Incredible brother
Thank you, Kyle. Yeah it’s quite quote dense. I was engaging my orator mode. 🤙
Wow! Fantastic piece of writing.
Thank you for reading, Christian.
Wise words and I speak from experience seven relapses decades later I’ve finally earned through hard work six years clean my longest span
Awesome to hear, Keith. I bet you’ve done everyone including yourself so proud.

It’s interesting how when we evolve, so do other things. I appreciate the read and the feedback, thank you.

💯
Movement really is an antidepressant—that’s a crucial way to sell it to someone who might need to hear it like that.
Thank you, Tim.
Exactly what I needed to read, 120 days in. Thank you! I will come back to these words often
Keep on, Melissa.
God damn that’s good. As someone who’s been sober for almost twenty years, here’s a full throated: Amen and hallelujah.
Haha, awesome. I deeply appreciate it.
Amen, brother.
To walk through life with honour and self-respect, knowing there will always be support to guide us :)
That, there will always be.
Thanks, Adam. I have always relied on you for support and guidance, when there are words I should read while journeying on my path :)

I’m honoured, Tinashe. Yes, there are many applications to growth, as you say. Appreciated as always.
Powerful! Always love how your prescriptions can be extended to other aspects of life, not just sobriety. Thank you for this.
You’re very welcome Patrick. Yes, it’s growth theory first, then applied to sobriety or whatever else.
This is terrific, thanks.
Great news, Mick. Thanks for reading .
